The 2023 AGM is approaching fast. With many changes impacting on our industry over the last 12 months this is a great opportunity to come together and check in with how we are all going. This AGM includes a special resolution seeking to make changes to the existing association rules.

Registration can be submitted by using the event registration menu at the top of the page. Registrations are open until 5:00pm Thursday 31 August.

A copy of the agenda can be found within the 2023 AGM topic inside the members area.

The special resolution seeks to make the following changes;

1 - Define a set of criteria/definition for life membership eligibility.
2 - Update section 49 of the rules ' Who is eligible to be a Committee member' to limit eligibility to members who are employed directly by a Municipal Council.
3 - Update section 55 of the rule 'Term of office' to limit number of years a member may hold a position on the committee continuously (other than ordinary committee positions).
4 - Replace the term 'ordinary' in relation to committee members with the term 'general'.
5 - Update membership classifications.

2023 Conference

We are pleased to advise that registrations for our 2023 Conference are now open. The conference will be hosted by the All Seasons Resort in Bendigo and will run from Wednesday 22nd March to Friday 24th March 2023.

The draft agenda is coming along nicely with presentations planned and in some cases confirmed from the State Revenue Office, Victorian Electoral Commission, Local Government Victoria, Essential Services Commission, Geographic Names Victoria and sessions on Financial Hardship and Rating Software catch-ups.

The program is changing slightly from prior years with proceedings starting on the Wednesday afternoon with a full day on Thursday and another half day Friday morning.

The gala dinner theme will be 'All That Glitters is Gold' in line with the historical significance that gold has with the Bendigo region. Use your imagination and have some fun dressing up to the theme.

While we have secured all accommodation at the venue, unfortunately not all attendees will be able to be hosted onsite. There are other accommodation options very close by with the Golden Reef Motor Inn directly across the road and the Best Western Crystal Inn just up the road.

Please join us for the RMA Annual General Meeting. Due to technical difficulties we are unable to hold this meeting in person, however we are saving the best of our presenters for our Country Conference.

Following the AGM we will hold an informative session about the developments of the collaboration of RMA, FinPro and Local Government Victoria in setting up a best practice for responding to hardship in Local Government. As you will be aware, this was a key outcome from the Rating Review conducted in 2019/2020 and the Ombudsman's Report into how local councils respond to ratepayers in financial hardship.

To make up for the lack of in person meeting, we have arranged for a special comedian guest to attend the event and provide us with the laugh that we all need after the last two years!

2022 RMA Country Conference

RSVP online at Eventbrite by Friday 11 ^th March 2022. Register by 18 ^th February 2022 and go in to draw for the early bird prize!

Starting on Wednesday 30th March through to Friday 1st April, we have an action packed three days coming your way!

This years conference offers a wide range of speakers including: Local Government Victoria, Valuer General Victoria, Solar Victoria, Geographic Names Victoria and Transgender Victoria to speak about gender diversity and resilience in an open and honest manner. Sessions regarding the use of caveats and the application of charity status to rateability will be discussed by our esteemed legal partners. As always, we host a range of social activities, with the Wednesday activities on offer include Lorne Scavenger Hunt/Amazing Race, followed by the amazing Bulgarian BBQ on the lawns. Our Thursday Dinner theme this year will be the "Beachside/Under the Sea" and held within. Prizes will be awarded for best dressed.
